Test server update: Introduction and Tutorials

Gusty-Izulr

Today we’ve finalized some of the balance changes on the test server, added some attractive new features to the tutorials, and added tons of new avatars to the store. Take a look!

General

  • Added a new ‘introduction’ tutorial to show new players what a full-scale battle might look like.
  • Added scroll rewards to the tutorials and the first three easy trials.
  • Reworked the end screen to make it more attractive.
  • Added new avatars and avatar heads to the store, and made them cycle randomly each week.

Scrolls

  • Fulmination Conduit (Energy): Once again has Countdown 2 (down from 3).
  • Wings Spear (Order): Dominion: Spiky increased by 2 (down from 3).
  • Miasma Well (Decay): Now triggers when Countdown becomes 0 instead of on attack.
  • Pestis (Decay): No longer usable on structures [bug fix].

Bug Fixes

  • AI is no longer confused by Pillar of Fatigue.

What do those scroll rewards look like exactly? Something like this:

Scroll Awarded

Pretty slick, no? Having this feature in game not only allows us to improve the tutorial experience, but also potentially add in more scroll rewards for playing different game modes in the future. For example, a few of the early Trials have received extra scroll rewards. This is just a start!

Balance Adjustments

A few scrolls have been adjusted for what is probably the last time before the patch sees the live servers. Here’s what we changed:

  • Fulmination Conduit (Energy): Once again has Countdown 2 (Now 0/2/4).
We want to get this structure just right. While its current state on live is clearly lackluster, we feel that increasing both its Countdown and health probably tips it too far in the other direction. Going with the health increase over the countdown gives it a bit more defensive versatility while not allowing for excessive early game ramping.
  • Wings Spear (Order): Dominion: Spiky increased by 2 (down from 3).
With its cost decrease, the previously increased Dominion effect should probably be scaled back accordingly. It has been done.
  • Miasma Well (Decay): Now triggers when Countdown becomes 0 instead of on attack.
There was an issue with the new Miasma Well where you would lose the value from its poison by destroying a unit that was poisoned in the same attack round. While structures like Charge Coil experience this same weakness, Miasma Well has a Countdown of 2 – so it hurts a lot more when it happens. Triggering the poison when Countdown becomes 0 allows the player to adjust his attack plans accordingly.
  • Pestis (Decay): No longer usable on structures [bug fix].
Another bug fix in the quest to eliminate enchantments that would really like to be stuck on everything. Come on, enchantments… stay where you belong.

Look for these changes to come soon to a live server near you.

How do I access the test server?

Open your Scrolls launcher, click “More Options”, “Play Test Server.”
